  • The Clarksville Walking Tour brochure will be available in early 2011!!! Thanks to Clarksville resident David Mider, owner of Blueplate Design, for designing a fabulous brochure.

  • In November, American Youthworks brought a crew of young people to 1720 West 11th Street to help the CCDC clean out the two historically-contributing homes located there in preparation for renovating the properties in early 2011. The renovations will allow the CCDC to provide affordable housing to two more families. If you would like to help fund the renovation effort, please get in touch with the CCDC’s property manager, Rose Gabriel - [click here to email]. Also, the CCDC always welcomes donations to help fund ongoing repairs and maintenance on all of its affordable properties.

  • Architecture students participating in the Alley Flat Initiative, [www.thealleyflatinitiative.org] a joint project of UT’s Center for Sustainable Development, the Austin Community Design and Development Center and the Guadalupe Neighborhood Development Corporation, worked with the CCDC on the design of a new sustainable, green affordable home. The CCDC plans on building the home on a vacant lot it owns on Theresa. We look forward to breaking ground on the project in 2012.

  • The CCDC renamed the Clarksville Neighborhood Center the “Pauline Brown Clarksville Neighborhood Center” in honor of one of the founders of the organization and a long time advocate for the neighborhood. The organization organized a dedication ceremony to unveil the Center’s new sign. State Representative Elliot Naishtat as well as County Commissioner Sarah Eckhardt, and City Council Member Randi Shade all spoke at the event. The dedication was followed by a reception. In preparation for the dedication, the CCDC hired OWA resident Tracen Gardener to hardscape the area in front of the Center and neighborhood volunteers and board members landscaped the area. Most recently, we added solar lighting.

  • The CCDC worked with the Friends of the Austin History Center to help plan "The Pease Family: The Clarksville Connection" event in Clarksville. The event included a lecture about Historic Clarksville at Sweet Home Baptist Church and inspirational singing by the church choir, a reception on the grounds of the Haskell House, which was hosted by the CCDC and neighborhood volunteers, and a tour of Woodlawn (the Pease Mansion).

  • A limited number of Haskell House t-shirts (mostly large) are still available [click here to email Mary Reed for information]
